Jammu, 26th September 2025 — The National Commission for Women (NCW), led by Hon’ble Chairperson Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar, organized a Mahila Jan Sunwai (Rashtriya Mahila Ayog-Apke Dwar) program in Jammu today. The event focused on addressing women’s grievances through direct engagement and immediate resolution, ensuring accessibility for all affected individuals.
The initiative drew significant participation from women who presented various complaints and concerns. The Commission promptly resolved multiple issues on the spot, reinforcing its commitment to justice and support for women. This outreach event aimed to enhance public trust in law enforcement and institutional responsiveness regarding women’s safety and dignity.
Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar praised the cooperative efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir Police for their swift action in facilitating the event. “The Mahila Jan Sunwai is a vital step in empowering women and addressing their grievances effectively. We must ensure that every woman feels safe and supported in our society,” she remarked during her address.
The program served as a platform not only for complaint resolution but also provided educational insights into legal rights and available support systems for women. Following the outreach, a review meeting took place involving senior police officials and district administrative officers. During this session, the Commission proposed guidelines to enhance safety mechanisms for women, emphasizing the necessity of organizing more awareness programs and seminars.
Digital images and PowerPoint presentations were shared by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Jammu, showcasing safety measures and facilities available for women in the region. This included critical data on the prevention and detection of crimes against women, underscoring the importance of proactive measures for women’s security.
Shiv Kumar, IPS, who presided over the proceedings, acknowledged the NCW’s valuable contributions to improving women’s safety. He emphasized the role of law enforcement officials in creating a conducive environment for women by ensuring swift redressal of their grievances.
Shiv Kumar also shared insights on enhancing the effectiveness of local law enforcement responses to gender-based violence. He mentioned the collaborative efforts across various levels of government and police to facilitate safer communities.
The Mahila Jan Sunwai highlighted the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment through direct engagement activities. It marked a significant achievement in not only resolving complaints but also instilling confidence among the women of Jammu.
