The Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Competition for All Age Group (AAG) Girls commenced today at the University of Jammu. This event, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), District Jammu, aims to promote sports among young female athletes. Approximately 300 girl athletes from various government and private schools participated enthusiastically, competing in numerous track and field events.
On the opening day, the competition showcased numerous talents as participants displayed their strength, speed, and sportsmanship. In the discus throw events, gold in the U-19 category went to Sweety Devi (Zone Marh), with Konika Chib (Zone RS Pura) and Renu (Zone Bishnah) winning silver and bronze, respectively. The U-17 category saw Nidhi Verma (Zone Satwari) take home gold, followed by Kiran Kumari (Zone Bhalwal) and Nirjala (Zone Bishnah).
In the U-14 discus event, Subhana (Zone Satwari) clinched gold, while Sonakshi (Zone Miran Sahib) and Mansi (Zone Akhnoor) secured silver and bronze.
The 100m races also attracted significant attention. Damanpreet (Zone Bishnah) won gold in the U-14 category, while Nishta Sharma (Zone Jammu) dominated the U-17 category, and Shivani (Zone Jammu) took gold in U-19.
The 400m events were equally exciting. Sahiba Choudhary (Zone Dansal) emerged victorious in the U-14, repeating her success in the U-17 category with another win by Nishta Sharma (Zone Jammu).
Additionally, in the 300m race, Mehak (Zone Jammu) clinched gold in the U-19 category, while Sonia Choudhary (Zone Dansal) was awarded gold in U-17.
The high jump events saw remarkable performances as well. Shriya Bhagat (U-14, Zone Chowki Choura), Rohika Devi (U-17, Zone Chowki Choura), and Payal Kumari (U-19, Zone Chowki Choura) each secured gold in their respective events.
DYSSO Jammu and technical officials, including prominent figures such as Nirmal Singh, Chamel Singh, and Sarabjeet Singh, awarded medals to the top performers. They congratulated the winners and encouraged all participants to uphold the values of dedication, discipline, team spirit, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
This year’s competition not only highlights the sports talent of young girls but also emphasizes the importance of physical education in schools. With the increasing focus on girls’ participation in sports, the event holds extraordinary significance for empowering young female athletes in the region.
