PV Sindhu, the two-time Olympic shuttler, recently shared insights into her deep bond with cricketing legend Virat Kohli. In a candid discussion during the latest episode of the RCB Podcast, she spoke about how Kohli’s timely advice helped her navigate a challenging phase in her career, reinforcing their brotherly connection.
Currently competing in the BWF World Championships in New Delhi, Sindhu reflected on the crucial advice Kohli imparted during her lowest moments. She recalled how the cricketer encouraged her to simply show up for her matches and training sessions, emphasizing the importance of resilience.
“He is like my brother,” Sindhu said. “I remember when I was at my lowest, I shared my struggles with him. He just said, ‘Just show up. It’s okay, go out there and play your game.’”
Further elaborating on his words, she mentioned, “He urged me to participate in everything and play my game without fear. You won’t lose anything; you know who you are and how you’ve trained. Show the world your abilities. That conversation changed my entire outlook,” she added.
Sindhu highlighted the importance of maintaining their friendship, stating that she often shares her victories with Kohli. “Whenever I win, I tell him about my achievements. It’s wonderful to meet someone who has accomplished so much and to learn from his experiences. Observing how he approaches the game teaches me a lot,” said Sindhu.
In her recent match at the BWF World Championships, Sindhu showcased her skills against Ireland’s Sophia Noble, winning decisively with scores of 21-7 and 21-11 in the Round of 64 for women’s singles. This victory adds to her impressive record, making her a five-time World Championships medallist.
