On Monday, police forces disrupted drug trafficking activities by recovering over one kilogram of charas in separate operations across Shopian and Budgam districts, leading to the arrest of two alleged drug peddlers.
In Shopian, acting on reliable information, a police team from Police Station Zainapora initiated a crackdown. They registered FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act and successfully obtained a search warrant from the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Shopian.
Following this, a team led by the station house officer (SHO) Zainapora, along with an Executive Magistrate 1st Class, raided the residence of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Humhuna Nagbal. During the operation, officers seized one kilogram of charas-like substance, along with a grinder machine suspected to be used for processing the contraband.
“The accused remains at large, and police are making concerted efforts to apprehend him,” a police spokesperson stated.
The operation did not end there. Another police team from Police Post Wachi intercepted a suspect at a checkpoint in Naghard Wachi. There, they detained Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, the son of Gh. Hassan Sheikh from Pombia Kulgam. Upon search, they uncovered approximately 101 grams of charas-like substance.
Consequently, this led to the filing of a fresh case under FIR No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act at Police Station Zainapora, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
In the parallel operation taking place in Budgam, police conducted vigilant naka checking at Checkpora Kralpora where they apprehended one more suspected drug dealer. The man, identified as Moomin Qadir Dhobi, son of Gh. Qadir Dhobi of Dharambugh Kralpora, was in possession of 112 grams of charas-like substance.
This operation prompted the police to register FIR No. 173/2025 under the NDPS Act at Police Station Chadoora, as investigations continue to uncover further details.
These developments underscore the vigilance of law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking in the region. With increasing efforts to curb illegal drug trade, officers plan to intensify their operations, ensuring community safety and well-being.
