Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Vadodara on Tuesday, laying foundation stones and inaugurating development projects valued at over ₹35,000 crore. This unprecedented initiative opened public registration through BookMyShow, leading to an overwhelming response where all seats were booked within just an hour.
Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) facilitated this novel registration process, demonstrating a shift towards digital engagement. The quick closure of registrations left over 42,000 applicants on the waiting list, reflecting immense public enthusiasm.
The event will employ a fully digital entry system. Registered participants will receive a digital M-Ticket in their BookMyShow accounts, featuring a secure live QR code for entry verification. This streamlined process from registration to venue entry aims to ensure speedy access and efficient crowd movement.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will dedicate several key sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), covering 326 route kilometres at a cost exceeding ₹20,700 crore. These strategic segments include New Sanand to New Makarpura, New Umbergaon to New Saphale, and New Saphale to New JNPT.
This new connectivity from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) will enhance the movement of EXIM cargo, strengthen transport links between industrial hubs and ports, cut logistics costs, and alleviate congestion in Mumbai’s rail system.
With the commissioning of these sections, the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) network will operate fully. This dedicated freight infrastructure will enhance India’s logistics ecosystem, improving multimodal connectivity and reducing transit time for cargo across regions.
Additionally, Prime Minister Modi will flag off freight train services from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umbergaon, and New JNPT, alongside a new passenger train service from Tanda Road to Vadodara (Pratapnagar).
During the event, he will also dedicate the Jobat–Tanda Road new rail line, an initiative to connect remote tribal areas of Alirajpur with the national rail network. This project follows the Chhota Udepur–Dhar development scheme.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for three railway initiatives spanning 329 kilometres at a cost above ₹9,700 crore, including the Vadodara-Ratlam third and fourth lines, the gauge conversion of Miyagam Karjan to Choranda-Malsar, and the doubling project for Vishwamitri-Dabhoi. These improvements aim to boost passenger and freight capacities, reduce congestion, and fortify connectivity between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
He will also kick-start three National Highway projects costing approximately ₹1,780 crore. This includes the six-laning of the Kamrej-Chalthan section of NH-48 and major bridge constructions over the Tapi and Narmada rivers along the Vadodara-Surat stretch of NH-48.
In addition, several Government of Gujarat projects worth around ₹2,600 crore will see new foundations laid. These include the Vadodara Urban Development Authority’s Ring Road Phase II and a 110 MW floating solar project at Kadana Dam. Ongoing projects include housing developments under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and a water-supply initiative for 11 villages in eastern Vadodara.
On a related note, PM Modi will inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai, one of the world’s most significant fintech gatherings. The seventh edition of this conference, held from September 8 to 11, aims to unite policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, and technology experts in shaping the future of finance.
The theme this year is: “Potential to Impact: Agentic AI, Tokenisation, Quantum – Trusted, Connected, Global Systems for Inclusive Finance.” GFF 2026 will serve as a hub for discussions on how emerging technologies can create trusted and inclusive financial solutions.
