The Congress party intensified its accusations against the BJP and RSS on Monday, alleging that they are conspiring to silence Rahul Gandhi after a controversial death threat emerged from a former ABVP leader. This exchange highlights ongoing tensions within Indian politics.
On Monday, Congress officials flagged a severe death threat against Rahul Gandhi, voiced by Printu Mahadev, a former state president of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), affiliated with the RSS. Congress Spokesperson Pawan Khera expressed deep concern over these alarming remarks, calling them chilling and heinous.
Khera noted, “A BJP spokesperson stated on television that ‘Rahul Gandhi will be shot in the chest,’ and no action has been taken.” This lack of accountability prompted Khera to question the motives behind the BJP’s actions.
“The CRPF previously wrote a letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge regarding Rahul Gandhi’s safety and leaked it. Why politicize his security, creating an environment rife with threats?” Khera asked, indicating that a larger conspiracy might be at play.
He criticized the BJP for attempting to silence Gandhi, alleging, “They are losing the ideological battle and lack the ideas to counter him. Thus, they resort to threats of violence.” Khera emphatically stated that the Congress party would not tolerate any form of intimidation towards its leaders.
This pattern of violence is no coincidence, he argued. “When the RSS fails to defeat the ideology of India, their followers resort to physical threats. Now, as the BJP struggles in the ideological arena, their representatives threaten Rahul Gandhi,” Khera declared in a video statement.
Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal also joined the fight against these threats, sending a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Venugopal warned that failing to act against Mahadev’s shocking remarks would suggest complicity in the violence against the Leader of Opposition.
In his letter, Venugopal condemned Mahadev’s statements during a televised debate, describing them as a calculated death threat against Gandhi. “This is not mere hyperbole; this is a cold, chilling message directed at one of India’s foremost political leaders,” he asserted.
Venugopal highlighted that such comments imperil Gandhi’s life and undermine the country’s constitutional foundations. He demanded clarity from the BJP and government regarding their stance on violence against political figures.
“Do you endorse this culture of criminal intimidation and threats? Such actions poison our public life,” he challenged Shah. Venugopal defined Mahadev’s threat as not just an attack on Gandhi but on the very democratic values he represents.
He noted, “This threat reflects a deliberate cultivation of a toxic atmosphere that puts the Leader of Opposition at significant risk. Any failure to act decisively against this will be seen as a green light for further violence.”
Venugopal concluded his letter by emphasizing that the nation demands prompt legal action to ensure justice. “Swift and visible punishment is necessary,” he urged, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
