The Government Medical College (GMC) Doda achieved a significant milestone by performing its first-ever thrombolysis procedure for stroke on November 2. This breakthrough treatment improves emergency healthcare services for residents in the Chenab Valley.
The procedure, led by Principal Dr. Rakesh Bahl and Department of Medicine Head Dr. Amir Hussain Parray, marks the first such advanced intervention provided locally. Patients experiencing stroke can now receive critical care without the need for time-consuming transfers to GMC Jammu or other facilities.
Roshan Lal, a resident of Dolli village in Gundna tehsil, was the first patient to experience this innovative treatment. He arrived at GMC Doda exhibiting classic symptoms of stroke, and doctors promptly evaluated him. The Medical Department team included Dr. Govinder Kumar, Dr. Divyanshu, and Dr. Momin, with support from Mr. Rajinder Singh and Mr. Arif Mir.
Doctors confirmed that Lal responded well to the thrombolytic therapy and continues to recover steadily. Their swift action was crucial, as stroke victims require immediate action to minimize long-term impacts.
Before the initiation of thrombolysis at GMC Doda, individuals requiring treatment for acute strokes faced significant delays during the transfer to larger hospitals. This advancement now allows for timely interventions that can potentially save lives and improve recovery outcomes.
