GMC Jammu’s CME Advances Palliative Care on World Day

Jammu, October 10, 2026: In recognition of World Palliative Care Day, the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu hosted an impactful Continuing Medical Education (CME) workshop titled “Pain Management – An Essential Part of Palliative Care.” This event brought together around 130 healthcare professionals, including eminent consultants and postgraduate residents, highlighting the critical role of comprehensive pain management in enhancing the quality of life for patients battling cancer and other serious ailments.

The workshop featured a dedicated focus on interdisciplinary collaboration, showcasing expert lectures and interactive discussions on various aspects of palliative care. Designed to foster dialogue and exchange of innovative clinical practices, the programme emphasized the need for integrating pain management within clinical routines, ensuring patients receive holistic and compassionate care.

Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean of GMC Jammu, led the initiative, supported by a talented organizing team including Dr. Rajesh Mahajan, Dr. Madan Katoch, and Dr. Shruti Gupta. This collaboration aimed to propel a comprehensive understanding of palliative care and its implementation in everyday medical practices.

Attendees gained insights into current challenges and strategies around cancer pain management, effective opioid use, and the pivotal role of nurses in providing supportive care.
