Lok Sabha Adjourns Till Monday Amid Opposition Protests

The Lok Sabha adjourned until Monday as opposition members voiced strong protests on Friday. Key issues fueling the unrest included the NEET paper leak and allegations surrounding the Ram temple donation theft.

Despite the uproar, the House passed the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026 without any debate. This move raised eyebrows among opposition members who called for further discussions on pressing matters.

Several papers and reports from various Parliamentary committees were tabled during the session. However, the primary attention remained on the aggressive dissent raised by opposition parties seeking clarification from Home Minister Amit Shah regarding alleged police excesses during recent student protests related to the NEET issue.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju countered the opposition’s demands, asserting that the government decides which minister addresses the House. He emphasized that Home Minister Shah consistently attends sessions and works diligently into the night, urging protestors to cease their disruptive antics.

Dilip Saikia, who chaired the session, appealed for cooperation from all members to maintain order in the House. He stated, “Please go to your seats. Please cooperate,” in an effort to restore normalcy.

As protests persisted, Zero Hour concluded a mere 16 minutes post commencement, necessitating the suspension of activities until Monday. Today marked yet another instance of repeated disruptions, with Question Hour also being curtailed amidst the cacophony of opposition protests.

The ongoing Monsoon session, which began on July 20, witnesses continuous turmoil between the ruling party and opposition factions. These disruptions showcase the volatile climate within the House, underscoring ongoing tensions regarding governance and accountability.
