A Pakistani high court is set to hear a crucial plea from jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, on Thursday. This plea challenges their convictions in the high-profile Al-Qadir Trust case, a significant legal battle drawing national attention.
The Islamabad accountability court sentenced Khan, 73, to 14 years in prison, and Bibi received a seven-year sentence in January last year. This ruling stemmed from a corruption case led by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Pakistan’s anti-corruption watchdog.
Khan and Bibi filed their appeal with the Islamabad High Court (IHC), which initially planned to hear their case on April 22. However, the hearing was disrupted due to the closure of the Red Zone, following anticipated negotiations between Iran and the United States.

According to the NAB, these donations were improperly exchanged for the former Prime Minister’s administration’s decision to use repatriated funds from the United Kingdom to pay legal fines on behalf of the businessman. This course of action allegedly circumvents depositing the funds into the national treasury.
Khan has adamantly denied the charges against him, asserting that neither he nor his wife gained any financial advantage from the trust or any related dealings.
