RAMBAN, JULY 08: Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gool Imtiaz led a pivotal Sub-Division Level Disaster Management and Coordination Meeting today, outlining strategies to enhance disaster preparedness in the face of natural hazards like floods and landslides.
The meeting attracted key officials, including Tehsildar Harjeet Singh, SDPO Kuldeep Raj, and representatives from various departments such as Agriculture, Jal Shakti, and Police. Over a dozen officers from departments managing essential services were present, indicating a strong inter-departmental effort towards disaster readiness.
The SDM conducted a thorough review of the existing disaster management plan, focusing on available manpower, machinery, and essential commodity stockpiles. He highlighted the importance of functional control rooms and robust communication systems, especially as the monsoon season approaches. All departments must remain on high alert during this critical period.
“Coordinated action is vital,” SDM Imtiaz asserted, directing departments to identify all vulnerable areas prone to landslides and flash floods. He tasked the Jal Shakti, PWD, and PMGSY departments with ensuring that restoration teams and equipment remain ready for immediate deployment.
The Health department received specific instructions to prepare for emergencies by ensuring adequate availability of medicines, ambulances, and medical personnel at CHC Gool and nearby Primary Health Centers. The Consumer Affairs department must also ensure a sufficient buffer stock of rations, while the Power Development Department (PDD) should arrange backup power supply.
Regular assessments of high-risk areas will be conducted by Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars to maintain updated disaster-prone lists. Moreover, the SDM stressed community involvement, urging locals to share critical information about safety measures.
The police and the 23 RR battalion were tasked with supporting rescue and evacuation operations, while Beacon representatives were directed to ensure prompt road repairs following blockades.
“Safety of lives and properties remains our foremost priority,” said SDM Imtiaz, reiterating the administration’s commitment to effective coordination and public cooperation to mitigate disaster impacts. The administration prepares extensively for any potential natural calamities, ensuring community safety is never compromised.
