DRDO Achieves Milestone: Agni-Prime Missile Successfully Launched

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in a significant development for India’s defence capabilities, successfully launched the Intermediate-Range Agni-Prime missile from a rail-based mobile launcher system. This historic event took place yesterday, demonstrating the integration of advanced technology in India’s strategic missile arsenal.

The DRDO’s collaboration with the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) enabled this milestone, showcasing India’s growing prowess in missile technology. The Agni-Prime missile is specifically engineered to cover a range of up to 2,000 km and boasts a plethora of advanced features. A statement from the Defence Ministry emphasized its role in bolstering India’s strategic deterrence.

This innovative launch, described as the first-of-its-kind, occurred from a uniquely designed rail-based mobile launcher. This system can traverse the rail network without the need for prior arrangements. It significantly enhances cross-country mobility and allows for quick responses with minimal visibility, offering a tactical advantage.

The Agni-Prime is self-sustainable and includes all essential features required for independent launch operations. This includes cutting-edge communication systems and protection mechanisms, ensuring effectiveness in a variety of operational scenarios. Throughout the launch, various ground stations meticulously tracked the missile’s trajectory, confirming that the event met all established mission objectives.

This success opens avenues for the induction of futuristic rail-based systems into the Indian armed forces. Senior scientists from DRDO and officers from the Strategic Forces Command attended the launch, underscoring the importance of this achievement for national security.

The road-mobile Agni-P version had previously been inducted into military service following a series of successful trials, further solidifying India’s capabilities in modern warfare.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his congratulations to the DRDO, SFC, and the armed forces following the successful test of the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime missile. He noted that this flight test places India among a select group of nations capable of launching canisterised systems from a moving rail network.

“This next-generation missile, capable of reaching up to 2,000 km, features advanced technology that allows users high mobility and rapid launch capabilities with reduced visibility,” Rajnath Singh stated in a post on X, formerly Twitter. His remarks highlighted the strategic significance of this development.

Additionally, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and DRDO Chairman commended all teams involved in this successful endeavor, acknowledging the collaborative effort that has ushered in this technological advancement.
