Authorities have implemented multi-layered and robust security arrangements across Kashmir to ensure the peaceful conduct of the Independence Day celebrations. Inspector General of Police (IGP) V K Birdi confirmed the preparations during a briefing held on Tuesday at the Balidan Stambh.
Birdi stated that the Jammu and Kashmir Police maintain stringent security protocols not only in Srinagar city but across various districts in the valley. “Multi-layered security arrangements are in place,” he remarked, addressing journalists. These measures cover not just the main celebratory venues but also surrounding areas, enhancing safety for all participants.
In response to inquiries about ongoing investigations into recent attacks in Anantnag and Pulwama, Birdi noted, “The investigation is ongoing. It would not be appropriate for me to disclose details at this time.” He assured that pertinent information would be shared with the public when available.
Birdi urged citizens to join in the Independence Day festivities, stating, “This is a public function. The police only act as a helper or organizer.” He expressed hope that a large turnout would contribute to the event’s success.
The IGP conducted a comprehensive review of security arrangements on Monday, assessing various preparations for the upcoming celebrations throughout the valley. During this meeting, he conferred with key officials, including the IG BSF, IG CRPF, and Additional Commissioner SB Srinagar, among others from allied security agencies.
Senior officials briefed Birdi on the arrangements specific to their districts regarding the Independence Day events, enabling a coordinated approach across the region. To reinforce safety, the IGP directed officers to intensify area domination and patrolling, particularly in sensitive and vulnerable areas.
Additionally, Birdi assessed security preparations for the main function at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar. He stressed the importance of completing all necessary arrangements ahead of time. “Ensure that security checkpoints are reinforced, especially at night,” he added, highlighting the need for vigilance.
The IGP also called for heightened alertness against any elements threatening peace, urging officers to maintain strict oversight across all jurisdictions. As part of these intensified protocols, police conducted surprise checks and frisking in prominent areas like Lal Chowk.
As Kashmir gears up for Independence Day, citizens can expect an increase in security measures aimed at safeguarding public safety. Police encourage everyone to partake in the national celebration, paving the way for a joyous and secure atmosphere.
